Alaska has 11 primary highways. Some paved, some gravel, all Alaskan highways take you off the beaten path and into the real Alaska.
Hwy #1 is the Glenn, connecting Tok to Anchorage.
Hwy #2 connects Alaska to the U.S. mainland via the Alcan Highway. The road comes into Alaska on the western border with Canada, heads north at Tok and goes on up to Fairbanks and Manley Hot Springs.
Hwy # 3 is the Parks, it goes from Fairbanks to Wasilla.
Hwy #4 is the Richardson Hwy merging with Hwy #1 at Glennallen and breaking north at the juntion.
Hwy #5 goes to Eagle and Dawson City, Yukon Teritory.
Hwy #6 is the Steese, goes from Fairbanks to Circle.
Hwy #7 is the Haines Junction cutoff road from the Alcan Hwy to Haines.
Hwy #8 is the Denali, all gravel, it goes from Paxton to Cantwell. (closed in winter)
Hwy #9 goes from Anchorage to Seward. Check out Saltwater Safari!
Hwy #10 is the Edgerton Hwy, stretching 33 miles from the Richardson cutoff to Chitina. Kenny Lake Mercantile sits downtown Kenny Lake at the junction of the Old and New Edgerton Hwys.
Hwy #11 is the Elliot Highway from Fox to Livengood. It becomes the Haul Road after it crosses the Yukon and goes all the way to Prudhoe Bay.
